Belgian Barbu D'uccle
We feel the best way to help a breed is by collaborating with other breeders. Red Roof Hens is working with Hot Rods and Hot Chicks, Darlene Woody Lefler to create lines we call Red Hots. These lines will eventually be available as they get to standard and other breeders come forward and want to work on this incredible breed.
We will sometimes have culls available ( the word cull here means a pet quality bird that will not further our breeding) that will be perfect for backyard flocks. See the pdf that talks about what to expect from pet quality birds.
Bantam Belgian Bearded D'uccle:
Update: Recently we noticed that Belgian Barbu d'Uccles and Booted Bantams have been added to the Livestock Conservancys list of heritage breeds that are being watched.

D'uccles are one of our favorite breeds for families with young children. D'uccles are friendly and inquisitive and love to be with their people. You will often see pictures of children carrying them around. We have had several D'uccle birds go to indoor homes as house chickens and they are deeply loved. These sweetie pies lay small creme colored eggs. While the color most recognized color people know is Mille Fleur and goldenneck, there are 10 recognized color/pattern varieties accepted by the ABA. They are:
Black, Blue, Buff, Golden Neck, Grey, Mille Fleur, Mottled, Porcelain, Self Blue ( AKA Lavender) and White. ( The same colors are also accepted colors in Booted Bantams)
We are working hard to support the accepted color varieties as many colors are starting to disappear. While we love a color project, the accepted colors need support.
We are members of the Belgian D'uccle and Booted Bantam Club of America. Find out more about the D'uccle breed or join here at:
There is also a link on that same site for joining the d'Uccle breed club.
Color projects in the works 2024: Colors we are working toward in D'uccles are Black, Buff, Blue, Choclate and cuckoo, silver mille and silver porcelain. We started a line of buff and have a grey project starting using silver mille d'Uccle and silver birchen bantam cochins. While grey d'Uccles are called greys they look like silver birchens to give a visual.
In 2024, we added blue silver, silver porcelain and silver mille fleurs to our projects. We are excited to be working with Hot Rods and Hot chicks on many of our projects.
We are always happy to share our projects with those who would like to take on a project and collaborate. A breed project can jump ahead much faster when more people are working toward a common goal than one single person.
